Xantech's Xtra Link2 Series IR distribution equipment is designed
to quickly and easily install in any room in your home. Now you can control the VCR or any other
audio/video device which uses IR to communicate. There are two models of the Xtra Link to
choose from, the 172-94 and the 172-94X.
You will only need one of the 172-94's in your system. This version of the Xtra Link, Model 172-94,
utilizes the 291-00 IR Receiver which has greatly improved range and interference rejection. The
291-00 receives the IR signals from a hand-held remote, converts them to DC control signals and
passes them to the RF/IR Injector where they are mixed with the RF television signal. This
combined signal is carried over a coaxial cable. At the other end of this coax the signals are
separated at the RF/IR Coupler and the DC control signal is sent to an infrared emitter placed
directly on the IR control window of the component you want to control.
The second model is the 172-94X expansion unit. Any number of 172-94X expansion units can be
added to a system after the 172-94 is installed. The 172-94X kit consists of an IR receiver
and an IR injector.

When using the Xtra Link kits in a cable TV or antenna system you need to be sure that all TV locations that do not have an
Xtra Link use a DC blocker. The IR injector found in each Xtra Link kit has a DC blocker built-in preventing the DC
signals from traveling to the TV. DC signals will not damage your TV's, the TV's simply try and process the signal and short
out the Xtra Link system. A diagram of an example cable TV system is
available here.
The Xtra Link 172-94 Kit (which includes the IR coupler used at the A/V source location) comes with two
single head IR emitters. The emitters have a 10 foot cable length with a mini-plug connector.
The mini-plug connector plugs into the IR coupler. The IR emitter has adhesive and is attached to the
IR window on your A/V sources. If you would like to control up to 4 A/V sources add 2 of the 284-10 dual
head IR emitters. The 284-10 has a 10 cable length - 7 feet to junction, 3 feet to each IR emitter.
